Prayer dress: cut, length and comfort

How to choose a women’s prayer outfit: length, khimar, and cloth that stays put through the movements.

What the cut must allow

A prayer outfit covers at rest and in motion: standing, bowing, prostration. The hem stays low when you bend. The sleeves do not ride to the elbow.

A pretty fall that opens as soon as you lift your arms is not a prayer outfit. Test the movement at home before travel or Ramadan.

Cloth and the floor

The cloth meets the mat. It should take more washing than an outing abaya. A soft jersey or light quilted cotton stays put better than satin that slips.

Keep a dedicated piece, washed apart, rather than your best visiting abaya. You pray more calmly if you are not counting stains.

Khimar with the outfit

A khimar that falls over the chest saves a hand holding the hijab mid-prayer. Wear it under or with the abaya depending on the cut, never as a layer that chokes the neck.

HOULYA offers an abaya cut for this moment, next to city abayas. Same brand, different use. You pay on delivery, anywhere in Morocco.
